Los Angeles: Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

Drive the 101 through Los Angeles and you'll see this $190 million modern monstrosity (from this angle, too). Forget any notion that a church should look like a church, or at least outwardly express the beauty and sacredness of its purpose.

  1. I have been there. The inside is even worse!

  2. This is a horrid architectural crime. Those behind it should be severely beaten and prosecuted.

  3. Wow, a cathedral that looks like a Soviet-era high-rise apartment. Now that's inspiring.

I'm surprised they allowed a cross on the side... there's a chance it wouldn't be mistaken for an abandoned warehouse or a set for the remake of THX-1138.

  4. The Rog Mahal (or Taj Mahoney) looks like a bunker - probably a true reflection of the seige mentality in the face of massive child abuse lawsuits, investigations, etc. Even jails have more windows. It's absolutely hideous - maybe they could sell it and build a real church?

  5. such a wasted opportunity to build something beautiful... really tragic for the city.

Soviet high rise comment is hilarious tho.
